Insulated Containers
Insulated containers maintain a constant temperature to help protect temperature-sensitive materials during benchtop use, short- or long-term storage, or transport. Available in a variety of types, such as polyurethane boxes, chests, coolers, and mini-coolers, insulated containers can be used for enzymes, cells, reagents, and other solutions.
Specific applications include: protection from moderate and extreme ambient temperature exposure; short-term frozen or hot storage; and controlled rate freezing (approximately -1°C/minute) for cell preservation.
Insulated containers include:
- Benchtop coolers
- Dewar bottles or flasks
- Freezing containers
- Ice buckets and pans
Insulated containers are usually used for cold items, although they can also be used with cold or hot items.

Low form shallow dewars permit essential operations that are not practical with standard cylindrical or spherical dewars including insertion of small flasks in dewar, agitation in flask with magnetic stirrer, rapid freezing and recovery of tissue/organ specimens, and tempering of stirring rods, pestles and other small objects. The protective aluminum bases extend the full height of the dewars. Note that protected vacuum tip-off tubulations are offset to the side to minimize space between the dewar bottoms and magnetic stirrers.

Cryo Pucks provide storage and transport for electron microscopy samples on grids under cryogenic conditions. There are 12 indexed wells in each puck to hold round cryo grid boxes. The pucks have a unique alpha-numeric code for easy identification and sample tracking. The puck depth accomodates pin type lid style cryo grid boxes. When using cryo grid boxes with flat-style lids, you can store up to 24 cryo grid boxes per puck. Special tweezer slots allow easy and secure removal of cryo grid boxes.
Mitegen Vitrification Dewar with Metal Parts By Nanosoft, for Cryo-EM Sample Preparation
The NanoSoft foam Vitrification Dewar and Metal Parts are designed for cryo-EM sample preparation systems. They are compatible with the Vitrobot and are interchangeable with FEI parts, allowing for a flexible setup where NanoSoft's parts can be used with an FEI dewar and vice versa. The foam dewar, developed in collaboration with Spearlab, provides a robust and easy-to-acquire option for sample preparation. Its design creates an improved interface, allowing the Igloo (sold separately) to form a better seal on the dewar, which contains cold nitrogen gas. This allows for safer grid transfer to the grid box. The Grid Box Ring is slightly thicker than the Vitrobot version, ensuring it remains in contact with liquid nitrogen longer if the level gets low.
